Face Her
Robin Torbitt
I wrote 'Face Her' as my entry to the Tune Into Nature Music Prize 2026. The song was selected as one of 12 shortlisted songs from entrees across the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man which demonstrated 'a true collaboration with nature'.
The lyrics were inspired by the sights and sounds of a walk I had in the Suffolk Wildlife Trust reserve at Lackford Lakes in Suffolk. Standout sightings of this walk to listen for in the lyrics were treecreepers, a blackbird, a gaggle of geese and the most amazing murmuration of starlings. As nature changes so much from dawn to dusk, I really wanted to structure the song to reflect this progression and the different beauties to be found in 3 verses: dawn, noon and dusk. I recorded and produced the track myself, it features ambient sounds of birds, streams and wind recorded on my morning dog walk – my dog Herbie even features subtly at 0:23 running from left to right in your headphones!
I hope you enjoy.
